OpEd: My Reseda
By Alexi Chidbachian
You hear the name Reseda and may automatically think of gangs, homeless people, and a barren boring place but gradually the once-happy city of Reseda is changing. Reseda was once a lively, safe, family raising city but over the years it dramatically decreased in quality.
The city of 91335 has become abundant in gangs and homeless people causing a rise in crime. Not only are the gangs and homeless on main busy city streets but they have now moved into residential living areas. Fortunately in the late 2000’s Reseda started improving. Safety regulations have been enforced throughout the entire city.
The police station on Vanowen St. and Wilbur Ave. have contributed to a great decrease in crimes, making residents feel safer. Policemen have also asking wandering homeless in residential areas to leave. All these safety actions have made Reseda a better place to live; restoring it to its old beautiful lively self.
Reseda has wonderful inexpensive homes for families, great schools, parks, gyms, and libraries; there’s no reason why any one wouldn’t want to live in the rapidly improving city of Reseda, California.
Alexi – I would challenge your negative look at the Reseda of the 90′s & early 2000s. I have been a member of this community for almost 30 years, & my extended family has lived here since the 1950s. This community is filled with hard working families & business, dedicated schools & organizations, & great Churches. And it always has been. Reseda, like any city, has some safety issues that the community, with involved stakeholders & neighborhood watch groups, continues to address. However, I don’t feel at any point Reseda was what your first line in your article implies. It’s easy to let a few negative events in a great community put a sour taste in your mouth, but in reality this is a great community, always has been, and will continue to be because Reseda is made up of dedicated, passionate people.
